GEOMETRY IN SEARCH OF THE BEST NATURAL LIGHT. CONSTRUCTION OF A SINGLE-FAMILY HOME ON A GROUND FLOOR DESIGNED AROUND ORIENTATION
We have completed the construction of a detached single-family home whose curves and irregular shapes adapt to the site’s topography. The project by architect Ana Domínguez Laiño blends seamlessly into its surroundings, resulting in a curved volume that twists around itself in search of the best orientation.Functionality and natural light take precedence, especially in the design of the roof, which slopes and folds to increase daylight entry through the large windows that define the south and west façades. In this regard, the layout of the home seeks to minimize rooms facing the north façade, turning its back on the street and opening up towards the rear of the plot.
The functional layout of this home of over 280 m² located in A Coruña focuses on an open-concept design and generous shared spaces, reserving the more enclosed and private areas for the bedrooms. This single-storey architectural ensemble achieves a close connection with the plot, where the existing trees have been preserved, and whose undisputed centerpiece is the rectangular pool that emphasizes the horizontality of the construction.
