Breaking Barriers: The Most Practical and Advanced Accessibility Solutions

Architecture and construction are not just about raising walls. It's also about opening doors. Building bridges. Connecting spaces. A line of work that we identify with at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios, and which has translated into a solid commitment to accessibility solutions.

Today, accessible spaces have become an indispensable standard. But this goes beyond being a mere regulatory requirement. Ensuring access to homes or business premises is an essential part of any construction project. And the final result must meet the needs of all individuals, regardless of their possible mobility limitations.

Architecture and construction, therefore, play a decisive role. Integrating accessibility solutions at the heart of projects is absolutely crucial for designing open and inclusive spaces, breaking down the barriers that citizens may encounter.

This constructive variable is reflected in all the works of Desarrolla. Day after day, we bring to life various ways to overcome potential obstacles with one goal: to ensure that everyone can access spaces safely.

BREAKING BARRIERS: THE MOST PRACTICAL AND ADVANCED ACCESSIBILITY SOLUTIONS

At DESARROLLA OBRAS Y SERVICIOS, we have executed a wide range of accessibility solutions for over a decade. One of the latest is the installation of an innovative platform that moves both vertically and horizontally in a building at Plaza Pontevedra.

Ramps accessible to everyone

There are multiple ways to bypass a staircase. During the rehabilitation of this historic building at Pontevedra Square, right in the heart of A Coruña, Desarrolla Obras y Servicios opted for a groundbreaking solution.

In addition to constructing an elevator, an innovative platform was installed in the building, situated in a 24-centimeter-deep concrete pit. Its mechanism relies on two hydraulic systems, which enable dual movement and raise the platform both vertically and horizontally at the same time. Thus, the entrance steps no longer pose a problem for individuals with mobility issues.

An innovation as cutting-edge as it is discreet: it barely stands out at first glance, as it blends in with the floor tiles. Moreover, it represents the introduction of this avant-garde technology in Galicia, which, until now, was only available in two cities in Spain: Madrid and Barcelona.

Another one of the accessibility solutions executed by Desarrolla Obras y Servicios is located at the Clínica Dental Esthetic BCN. In this instance, to avoid stairs and ease access, an automatic ramp was installed, which perfectly blends with the modern and austere ambiance of the business.

Technological development is a true lever for accessibility. However, complex mechanisms are not always necessary. The Escuela de Música de Santa Eulària, located in Ibiza, is proof of this. The transformation of these premises was completed with the replacement of stairs by an entrance ramp, opening the doors of this space to all the residents of the municipality.

An extremely valuable expertise

These projects are just small glimpses into the extensive history of Desarrolla Obras y Servicios, which has been committed to accessibility and a service-oriented approach since its inception.

This dedication has been embodied in all kinds of projects. From residential buildings, where elevators and other types of accessibility solutions have been installed, preserving the character and identity of the properties. To city landmarks, such as the Mercado de San Agustín de A Coruña, where accessibility was enhanced by the introduction of two panoramic elevators and a stairlift platform.

From public spaces, such as the A Coruña bus station, where two escalators and two elevators were installed, connecting to the main floor via a pedestrian walkway. To true gems of historical and architectural heritage, such as the Lugo Wall, where an elevator was incorporated to facilitate visitor access.

A diversity of projects that help spaces adapt to regulatory requirements in terms of accessibility. And that, above all, represent a before and after for the citizens who move through or access them.
