Light and Elegance: Desarrolla Completes the Renovation of Two Apartments in A Coruña

David Chipperfield contends that “the difference between good and bad architecture is the time you spend in it.” Ultimately, its functionality. Its true raison d'être. This principle surely takes on its full meaning when referring to homes. Thus, transforming apartments is a significant challenge that speaks to quality construction. A master idea that guides all the projects we undertake at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios and that we have just encapsulated in the renovation of two apartments in A Coruña.

Two distinct projects designed by the fantastic interior work of Iria Corredoira, from Estudio Iria C. Alonso. Both conceived to maximize the potential of each residence. The light and spaces, that delicate coexistence between the past and the future.

This is, in essence, the story of the renovation of two very special apartments.

LIGHT AND ELEGANCE: DESARROLLA COMPLETES THE RENOVATION OF TWO APARTMENTS IN A CORUÑA

Breathtaking views of the Promenade

The first residence, located on Matadero Street, was designed to accommodate four bedrooms. Alongside these, there was a living-dining room, a laundry room, a kitchen, and two full bathrooms. However, this layout no longer suited the lifestyle of its owners. For this reason, the number of bedrooms was reduced to two. Following a partial demolition, one of them was transformed into a walk-in closet. The other was joined to the living room, making it independent from the dining area. Now, the living space is more expansive, and it opens up to the sea. From there, one can enjoy unparalleled views of the city and its seafront promenade. A true balcony to the beauty of the coast. The renovation of the 150 square meters of this residence represented a complete transformation from top to bottom. The flooring said goodbye to the wooden parquet and is now composed of an oak laminate. Additionally, false plasterboard ceilings were installed. With the help of indirect lighting, a greater sense of depth was achieved, and shadowy areas in the corridors were eliminated. The sheen of the porcelain materials used in the bathroom cladding also helps to amplify the brightness. With this goal in mind, wrought iron screens were installed at the entrances to some rooms, and the living room doors were constructed so that, once opened, they would remain concealed. All cabinets and furniture were custom-designed. In addition, storage spaces were created with a focus on maximizing utility. This is crucial in rooms like the dressing room, where functionality is paramount.Minimalism permeates every corner of this refurbished apartment in A Coruña, which has embraced spaciousness, brightness, and subdued colors as its hallmarks. The result is a modern, elegant, and sophisticated home.

Living in the very heart of the city

The second of the renovated apartments in A Coruña is located on Juana de Vega Street, in the heart of the city. The original layout of its 175 square meters included four bedrooms, a living-dining room, a laundry room, a pantry, a kitchen, two full bathrooms, and a toilet. In this renovation, the decision was made to keep the bathrooms but modify the rest of the areas, especially by expanding the entrance area. Thanks to a partial demolition, the old entrance hall and its divisions were removed. The new kitchen access door, constructed with glass and wood, is now much wider. And, as a result, it allows more light to enter. Meanwhile, in the dining area, a curved cabinet has been installed, integrated into the wall itself. This proposal is characterized by a somewhat bolder spirit, reflected in the decoration and color palette, which is more diverse and vibrant. The doors are covered with various fabrics, bringing life to the space. The decorative wallpapers in the bathroom linings showcase their character. Every room experiments with different colors and finishes.Unlike the previous floor, in this case, it has been decided to keep the oak wood of the parquet. By polishing and varnishing, its natural color has been successfully restored. And, just as in the other property, the false plasterboard ceilings have recesses that allow for increased height and enhanced lighting. The versatility displayed by the teams at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios was crucial in carrying out the renovation of two apartments in A Coruña. A project we are particularly proud of, which is why we want to extend our gratitude to the developers for their trust in our work.Discover our work at www.desarrolla.esVisit us at the construction company headquarters in A Coruña.
