Structure in perfect condition
Contributing to this was the fact that the building’s state of preservation was “very good.” In fact, the original façade of the property has been retained—striking for its granite finish and white-painted wooden galleries, which also preserve the beautiful original zinc roof. The extension of the historic building over two additional floors involved a remarkable intervention that bears the hallmark of Desarrolla. To prevent the loss of the building’s timber roof, it was carefully dismantled, reused, and repositioned at the new corresponding level. In other words, two storeys higher. This was achieved using the same construction system for the connections between the roof elements, while preserving the original envelope. An ambitious undertaking made possible by the fact that the entire roof was in perfect condition and by the technical expertise of the Desarrolla and Pernas Varela Arquitectos teams.
