A restaurant that is a tree. A kind of shade under which to take shelter and enjoy. Marmurio do Río, the new venue we have just built in Allariz, is that and much more. The project led by chef Luis Moreno is an exercise in sensitivity and originality, driven by a passion for a vision of gastronomy that turns everything—the setting and what it contains—into a way of being and inhabiting the world.
The team at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios in Ourense recently completed the unique project designed by the studio Seara-Peleteiro, a reflection of the philosophy of the renowned chef.
Moreno wanted the visitor’s experience at Marmurio do Río to begin the moment they crossed the threshold. To achieve this, the architects created an allegory in which each floor or element of the restaurant evokes a part of a tree.
Thus, the main hall, for example, evokes the birth of the tree. It is its roots that extend through the reception area, softened by deliberately dim, warm lighting. There, the murmur of water flowing from the various fountains on the ground floor gently cradles the visitor, enveloping them in an atmosphere as astonishing as it is evocative.
The main staircase of the Marmurio do Río would be the trunk—the one that leads you to the imposing main dining room, metaphorically located beneath the branches of the tree.
The comprehensive restoration of Marmurio do Río
To bring to life the restaurant located in Allariz, the Desarrolla teams carried out the comprehensive refurbishment of the building. It is housed in a former restaurant that for years was a landmark in this town in Ourense.
The project has completely transformed the interior layout of the premises based on the structural and functional changes proposed by the studio Seara-Peleteiro. Specifically, the position of the staircase providing access to the upper floors was modified, adapting the floor slabs to the new intended uses.
It is a mixed structure of timber and structural steel, supported on load-bearing walls built with stone reclaimed from the original building. Desarrolla also fully renewed the kitchen and restroom service installations, as well as the climate control system for the premises.
The Seara-Peleteiro project incorporates elements rooted in craftsmanship, such as the wicker panels that define the staircase and railings. These features blend seamlessly with the other materials used, including stone, wood, and metal.
A GASTRONOMIC JOURNEY WHERE EVERY DETAIL MATTERS
As for the lighting, every detail has been meticulously considered. The goal? To use it as a tool to highlight the unique features of Marmurio do Río, while creating a warm atmosphere that enhances the enjoyment of the culinary journey.
A culinary concept that blends tradition and innovation. Classic Galician recipes reinterpreted by the chef and his team with an approach that is as thoughtful as it is respectful of this heritage.
