DESARROLLA COMPLETES THE RENOVATION WORKS ON A BEAUTIFUL RESIDENCE LOCATED IN CASA BARRIÉ, ONE OF THE ARCHITECTURAL GEMS OF A CORUÑA
In the heart of A Coruña’s Ensanche district, where history rises from stone and modernity, the Casa Barrié has once again proven its ability to reinvent itself without losing its essence. In one of its spacious apartments, measuring 187 square meters, the teams at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios have just completed a renovation that has restored vitality to a property that now looks to the future without forgetting the weight of its legacy.Because to speak of the Casa Barrié is to speak of architecture with soul, of a building that breathes the pulse of a city and allows itself to be reinterpreted with the elegance that only true classics possess.Conceived in 1926 by architects Antonio Tenreiro Rodríguez and Peregrín Estellés, following the initial sketches by Leoncio Bescansa and Rafael González Villar, Casa Barrié is part of the urban heritage most instantly recognizable in A Coruña.Its imposing façade and its location on Marcial del Adalid, facing the port, have made it a symbol of the Ensanche, a listed building where the past engages in dialogue with contemporary life.
Casa Barrié, a new vision of the future
In this context, the work carried out by our teams was never intended to alter its history, but to extend it: a respectful update that understands construction and architecture as a living organism, capable of adapting to the needs of the present.
The project was based on a clear premise: to intervene from within, without altering the envelope or the structural elements of the building.
This is a comprehensive renovation project focused on reorganizing the layout, optimizing functionality, and bringing greater light and coherence to the entire space.
The original home preserved a classic layout, with the kitchen and service area pushed to the back. The new design brings the kitchen into the daytime living area, creating a generous, continuous space alongside the living and dining rooms. A sliding glass partition allows each area to function independently without sacrificing the sense of openness and the entry of natural light.
The intervention has been an exercise in subtlety rather than disruption, a goal in which the outstanding interior design work by Dopiaenne Studio. The number of rooms has not been increased, nor has the external configuration been altered, but the spatial experience has been redefined: unnecessary corridors have been removed, sightlines have been opened up, and fluid circulation has been encouraged.
THE AESTHETICS AND SERVICE OF A NEW ERA
The result is a home that is more open, brighter, and more in tune with contemporary lifestyles. Instead of adding square meters without purpose, the design focuses on efficiency, on an organization that visually expands the spaces and enhances thermal and acoustic comfort.This renovation in the Casa Barrié does not seek to impose a new language, but to establish a dialogue. The intervention respects the proportions and elegance of the original elements, integrating contemporary materials and solutions that reinforce the sense of serenity and order.The resulting home offers a warm atmosphere, balanced between tradition and modernity, where every corner feels designed to be enjoyed calmly and filled with light.
