LIGHT AND ELEGANCE: DESARROLLA COMPLETES THE RENOVATION OF TWO APARTMENTS IN A CORUÑA. THE TWO HOMES, MEASURING 150 AND 175 SQUARE METERS, STAND OUT FOR THEIR BRIGHT INTERIORS, OPEN SPACES, AND FUNCTIONAL DESIGN

David Chipperfield maintains that “the difference between good and bad architecture is the time you spend in it.” Its functionality, ultimately. Its true reason for being. This principle undoubtedly takes on its full meaning when it refers to homes. Transforming apartments is, therefore, a major challenge that speaks to quality construction. A master idea that guides every project we undertake at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios and that we have just brought to life in the renovation of two apartments in A Coruña.Two distinct projects shaped by the outstanding interior design work of Iria Corredoira, from Estudio Iria C. Alonso. Both conceived to make the most of the potential of each home: the light and the spaces, that delicate balance between past and future. This is, in essence, the story of the renovation of two very special apartments.

The first home, located on Matadero Street, was originally designed to accommodate four bedrooms. Alongside them were a living-dining room, a laundry room, a kitchen, and two full bathrooms. However, this layout no longer suited the lifestyle of its owners. For this reason, the number of bedrooms was reduced to two. After a partial demolition, one of them was converted into a walk-in closet. The other was incorporated into the living room, separating it from the dining area. Now, the lounge is more spacious and opens out to the sea. From here, you can enjoy incomparable views of the city and its seafront promenade. A true vantage point over the beauty of the coastline. The renovation of the 150 square meters of this home meant a complete transformation from top to bottom. The wooden parquet flooring was removed and replaced with oak laminate floorboards. Suspended plasterboard ceilings were also installed. With the help of indirect lighting, the sense of depth was enhanced and shadowy areas in the corridors were eliminated. The sheen of the porcelain materials used in the bathroom wall coverings also helps to enhance the brightness. With this goal in mind, wrought-iron screens were installed at the entrances to certain rooms, and the living room doors were designed so that, once opened, they remain concealed. All the wardrobes and furniture were custom designed. In addition, storage areas were created to achieve the highest possible level of space optimization. This is crucial in rooms such as the walk-in closet, where functionality is paramount.Minimalism permeates every corner of this refurbished apartment in A Coruña, which has made spaciousness, natural light, and understated colors its hallmarks. The result is a modern, elegant, and sophisticated home.

The second of the renovated apartments in A Coruña is located on Juana de Vega Street, in the heart of the city. The original layout of its 175 square meters included four bedrooms, a living-dining room, a laundry room, a pantry, a kitchen, two full bathrooms, and a guest toilet. In this renovation, the decision was made to keep the bathrooms but redesign the rest of the areas, with a particular focus on expanding the entrance area.
