Comprehensive Renovation for the Insular Center of Oral Storytelling

The initiative undertaken by Desarrolla Obras y Servicios has been an exemplar of meticulous planning and cultural sensitivity. The rehabilitation project of the property designated for the Centro Insular de Narración Oral has met a fundamental need: to provide the municipality of Los Silos with an accessible, modern, and functional space, without compromising the essence of its traditional architecture.One of the main focuses of the intervention has been the enhancement of accessibility. The entrance, located on a sloped street, had architectural barriers that prevented access for people with reduced mobility.Today, thanks to meticulous leveling and the removal of the existing staircase, the center now offers a fully adapted entrance.To accessibility, we add the expansion of the center, which has enabled the incorporation of an elevator and a new vertical circulation core. This intervention not only enhances the building's functionality but also connects its interior with an outdoor area designated for cultural activities, creating a harmonious link between architectural tradition and contemporary cultural life.

Revitalized spaces for culture and imagination

The project has also entailed a reconfiguration of the interior spaces, with the creation of new exhibition halls and cultural use areas that enhance the building's versatility. Strategic demolitions of masonry partitions have led to more spacious and brighter environments, such as the courtyard window that bathes one of the new areas of the Centro Insular de Narración Oral in natural light.Concurrently, the adaptation of the facilities has been crucial to ensure the proper functioning of the equipment. Electricity, telecommunications, fire suppression systems, and lighting have been updated and optimized.Of particular importance has been the design of a specific lighting system, conceived to host narratives, workshops, and exhibitions, creating the perfect atmosphere for the spoken word to take center stage.

The uniqueness of the project also lay in the fact that the building had to remain operational during the rehabilitation.
