CASTLE OF SANTA CRUZ DE A GUARDA
THE PROJECT RESTORES AND ADAPTS THE CASTILLO DE SANTA CRUZ AS AN INTERPRETATION CENTER, INTEGRATING NEW FUNCTIONAL AND WELCOMING SPACES
Refurbishment of the Interpretation Centre of the Castle of Sta. Cruz located in the Fortalezas del Baixo Miño, in the municipality of A Guarda, Pontevedra.The project, commissioned by the Dirección Xeral de Patrimonio Cultural, was carried out by the Rodriguez+Pintos Arquitectos studio.
The project involved restoring the fortress’s only existing building and converting its interior into an exhibition hall and multipurpose space.
STEEL STRUCTURE
In contrast to the shell of this former residential building, three new volumes with a steel structural frame and exterior cladding are constructed. Inside, these compact buildings house the reception and storage area, the park’s restrooms, the service rooms, and a bar–cafeteria, which complete the facilities.These volumes are interconnected by a large covered threshold that provides the necessary space for interaction and welcome.
