SANTA COMBA DAS PÍAS
THE PROJECT RESTORES THE SANTA COMBA DAS PÍAS CHAPEL-SANCTUARY, PRESERVING ITS HISTORIC STRUCTURE WHILE ENHANCING ITS DRAINAGE AND STRUCTURAL PROTECTION
The restoration of the Chapel-Sanctuary of Santa Comba das Pías in Sobrado dos Monxes (A Coruña), whose complex and surroundings are listed in the General Inventory of the Cultural Heritage of Galicia with protection level 1.
Among the work carried out, special mention should be made of the restoration of the roof, which was dismantled manually piece by piece and then rebuilt, preserving some of the existing beams and replacing or repairing any damaged structural elements.
In addition, work has been carried out on the construction of a perimeter drainage system, which lowers the groundwater level of the site and channels water towards a soakaway pit, thereby resolving the existing flooding issues.Other conservation works undertaken include the careful cleaning of the stone and the application of a lime mortar render on the walls.
