The new unit, located in a 200 m² pavilion on the ground floor of CHOP, is equipped with 14 stations, five of which are for critical care, along with two thermal cots, two phototherapy stations, and another five stations for intermediate care, all fitted with state-of-the-art equipment for neonatal intensive care. In addition, a breast milk expression room and a breastfeeding room have been provided.

At an architectural level, the spaces have been reorganized to improve working conditions and patient well-being, taking into account circulation routes and the removal of barriers. In this regard, suspended headwalls have been installed to allow the connection of medical gases and the electrical connections of incubators to the ceiling, making it easier to move around the patient; the nursing control station has been relocated to ensure direct visibility of patients; and more space has been allocated to each patient to enable the implementation of the accompaniment protocol, helping to humanize the unit.

A SAFER, MORE EFFICIENT ENVIRONMENT.

In addition, environmental biosafety conditions have been enhanced through the implementation of circulation routes and barriers, handwashing stations at the entrance, and a zoned air-conditioning system with adjustable temperature control. Likewise, the unit’s facilities have been upgraded in areas such as lighting, electrical safety, plumbing, sanitation, medical gases, telecommunications, and climate control.
