THE DESARROLLA OBRAS Y SERVICIOS TEAMS HAVE JUST COMPLETED THE REFURBISHMENT OF THE ELVIÑA SPORTS CENTER, ONE OF THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE AND POPULAR FACILITIES IN THE CITY
This has not been just another project. It has been a way of looking again, with fresh eyes, at a space with an ambitious brief of requirements that hundreds of people pass through every day. The teams at Desarrolla Obras y Servicios recently completed the renovation of the Elviña Sports Center, one of the most comprehensive and busiest facilities in the city of A Coruña.The project was based on a fairly simple yet powerful idea: to update without losing its essence. On the one hand, work has focused on modernizing the interior spaces, reorganizing them and making them more intuitive.On the other, those shortcomings that, over time, end up affecting everyday use—although they are not always visible at first glance—have been addressed.
A more logical configuration
The change is noticeable from the very first moment. The access points are clearer, more open; they almost invite you to move. Everything now flows better: routes make more sense, the connections between floors feel more natural, and users understand the building without having to think too much about it.Something as simple as not getting lost inside a center… makes all the difference.One of the great successes of the reforma del Centro Deportivo de Elviña has been how the wet areas have been balanced with the dry training zones.The pool, which has always been the heart of the complex, is still there, but now it coexists with new spaces designed around what people are looking for today: fitness rooms, instructor-led activities, areas for functional training…
FROM THE CLASSIC TO A HYBRID MODEL
It’s a bit like moving from a classic model to a more hybrid one. You can go for a swim, yes, but you can also link an indoor cycling class or a strength session without ever leaving the same circuit.Everything is connected, both physically and visually. For example, the glazed partitions between rooms not only extend the space, they also create that sense of constant activity and shared energy.The changing rooms, which are often overlooked, have played an important role here. And you can really tell. They’re more comfortable, more accessible, and much better thought out.From the entrance to the exit towards the pool, everything follows a logic that guides the user. Even small details — such as transition areas or adapted spaces — shape a much more carefully designed experience.What’s more, even if it’s not always the most visible part, the reforma del Centro Deportivo de Elviña has gone deep into the building services. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems have all been upgraded… everything needed to ensure the building performs properly from the inside.Because in the end, what you don’t see also matters — a great deal.
Renovation of the wet area
Particularly noteworthy is the improvement in water treatment and the thermal area. Not only in terms of efficiency, but because it reinforces the idea that the center is no longer just for training, but also for taking care of yourself. A place where you can work out, but also switch off, recover, or simply feel better.At its core, the reforma del Centro Deportivo de Elviña is about that: updating a space that was already important for the city and taking it one step further. Turning it into a place that not only responds to who we are today, but is also ready for what’s coming.Ultimately, a project that has been both a challenge and a source of satisfaction for Desarrolla, due to the collective scale of the facilities.
