DESARROLLA BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF A MODERN RESIDENTIAL BUILDING NEXT TO PLAZA PORTICADA, IN THE VERY HEART OF THE CITY
Cutting-edge design and comfort in the heart of A Coruña. That could be, in a nutshell, the headline for one of the latest construction projects that Desarrolla Obras y Servicios has just completed. Our teams have recently finished the construction of a building comprising 23 homes, a retail unit and a car park, located between Plaza Ángel Ron Fraga and Rey Abdullah Street, right in the centre of the city of A Coruña.This is one of the last remaining vacant plots in the surroundings of Plaza Porticada which, now built on, completes the block. Moreover, in addition to this new building, Desarrolla has recently carried out other works at numbers 19, 21 and 23 on Rey Abdullah Street, all of them projects designed to enhance and consolidate the urban fabric of this central area of the city.
The new building is organized around a multi‑storey residential block and a ground floor that has been fitted out for commercial uses. In total, Desarrolla Obras y Servicios has built six upper floors plus an attic level for residential use, and three basement levels housing parking spaces and storage rooms.The brief includes different types of homes, ranging from one to four bedrooms. It combines lofts, conventional single‑storey units, and two‑level duplexes featuring double‑height living rooms. The homes on the sixth floor and attic level also enjoy generous terraces, opening onto the exterior façades along the entire perimeter of the building.
The project, led by the architecture studio of Mateo Miyar Olaiz, is defined by a contemporary architecture of clean lines, with bold frames around the openings that create volumes and shadows on the flat canvas of the block’s exterior façades.In contrast, the façade facing the inner square, due to urban planning requirements, blends into its surroundings by interpreting—albeit in a refined way—the architectural style of the adjoining buildings.
