STONE HOUSE IN MALPICA
Renovation of a single-family home in the urban center of Malpica de Bergantiños, based on the design by architect Mónica Mesejo
The property, built in 1920, and comprising a ground floor, first and second floors, plus an attic level, is a magnificent example of the area’s residential typology.In carrying out the works, the interior of the building is emptied, preserving the existing stone walls and restoring the most characteristic typological elements of the façade. The stone walls are also lined on the inside, except on the ground floor.
Precisely on these load-bearing stone walls rests a metal structure that serves as the base for a series of composite metal decks with profiled steel sheeting and concrete. On the ground floor, a ventilated slab is executed.The metal staircase connecting the different levels is particularly noteworthy, defined by its lightness and transparency, thanks to its independent wooden treads and glass balustrade.The existing auxiliary volume is also refurbished, designated as the living area of the home, featuring a fully glazed envelope facing the inner courtyard. Overall, the ground floor and its annexes are occupied by the daytime living areas, the upper floors are used for bedrooms, while the attic level is dedicated to storage.
