DESARROLLA BUILDS THE NEW LIDL IN GRAN CANARIA

The latest example is the new Lidl in Gran Canaria, located in the municipality of Telde.A few weeks ago, Desarrolla began the construction of a space with a truly cross-cutting vocation for this era. After all, the central role that supermarkets play in our daily lives means that their design and construction must enhance comfort and usability. If we were to count the minutes we spend in these kinds of establishments each year, we would realize that, beyond our homes and workplaces, there are few spaces where we spend more time.Major distribution and retail companies such as Lidl are fully aware of this. That is why they seek to ensure that their commercial spaces are welcoming, spacious, and well lit. The goal is to optimize the shopping experience for the thousands of customers who visit these stores every day—and to make them feel as comfortable as in their own homes.

Building the new Lidl in Gran Canaria

With this objective in mind, Desarrolla is building the new Lidl de Gran Canaria with a clear commitment to spaciousness and modernity. The team at the constructora is executing the project designed by Novarq Arquitectura & Ingeniería, which preserves the distinctive aesthetic of the company’s supermarkets.The building will comprise one floor dedicated to the store’s retail area, covering 2,730 m2, and two parking levels with a total surface area of 3,540 m2, providing almost 150 parking spaces. In addition, a pedestrian sidewalk will be built to facilitate movement and access to the supermarket, bearing in mind that it will be located in an urban environment.The first step was to clean and prepare the plot where the building is being constructed. The excavation of the land was then carried out, combining manual methods with open-cut mechanical excavation. After this phase, the slopes were cleaned and stabilized, ensuring the stability of the terrain. The next step in the construction of the new Lidl de Gran Canaria was the concreting of the foundations. Once these stages are completed, the Desarrolla Obras y Servicios team will erect the store’s precast concrete structure, made up of reinforced concrete walls. This distinctive and highly functional structure is complemented by the use of glass and metal elements, as well as cladding and finishes both inside and out.The plumbing, drainage network, and electrical, telecommunications, and security systems will also be installed.The final result of the new Lidl de Gran Canaria will combine the strong identity of the company’s supermarkets—from their exterior appearance to their interior design—with the extensive expertise of the Desarrolla team in constructing this type of project.

Desarrolla and Lidl, a long-standing partnership

This is not the first time that the German multinational, a global benchmark in the distribution and retail sector, has partnered with the construction company.Before commissioning the construction of the new Lidl in Telde, the company had already entrusted Desarrolla with the extension and refurbishment of one store in Sanxenxo and another in Santiago de Compostela, as well as the construction of a new Lidl in Ferrol.The work carried out on these three projects was highly diverse, involving both the interior and exterior of the stores. In Sanxenxo and Santiago, new bakery areas were installed and the outdoor car parks were upgraded. In Ferrol, as in Telde, a comprehensive construction of the store and its car park was undertaken.With this fourth collaboration now underway, Lidl reaffirms its trust in Desarrolla to deliver the construction and upgrading of its retail network.
